Franciscan University of Steubenville Combines ERP and
Learning Management Systems Through Web Portal
Jenzabar’s Total Campus Management is the Preferred Solution
Cambridge, MA — August 24, 2005 –
Jenzabar, Inc., the pioneer of Total Campus Management (TCM) solutions for higher education, today announced that Franciscan University of Steubenville will boost its administrative and online capabilities with the Jenzabar EX ERP system combined with Jenzabar’s Learning Management System (LMS) and Jenzabar’s Internet Campus Solution (JICS). The decision was the culmination of an extensive process that reviewed the offerings of the major players in the higher education software market, with campus-wide participation from faculty and staff. The goal to empower more users with access to information through easy-to-use applications was best served by Jenzabar’s integrated systems. Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Software Selection Committee noted that the single database architecture, superior reporting capabilities, and clear migratory path provided by Jenzabar were key factors in its decision.
“Our evaluation process was a cross-departmental effort that really looked at end-user empowerment and ease of use in a student information system,” said Kevin Sebolt, Director of Information Technology for Franciscan University of Steubenville. “The University’s decision to go with the Jenzabar solution was predicated upon its being a truly integrated system that ensured data integrity and provided a good reporting tool. The portal and learning management system also were huge pluses, and we saw that Jenzabar could support our vision for improving constituent services through the company’s vision for product development and ongoing support as we implement our new system.”
The reporting capabilities delivered by Jenzabar EX enable users to create and run their own reports, a key feature for institutions that maintain a lean IT staff. The JICS single point-of-entry and intuitive interface are other key features that reduce the burden on IT staff while making access and use easier for students, faculty and staff. Additionally, Jenzabar’s move to the Microsoft® .NET platform along with its SQL Server database structure position Jenzabar products as well equipped to handle further enhancements and the expansion of Web services well into the future. Franciscan University of Steubenville was looking to implement a system that will serve their current needs and support the institution’s growth for many years to come. Dubbed “Project Assisi,” an acronym for A Spiritual Student Information System Implementation as well as the name of the town where the founder of the Franciscan Order, St. Francis, was born, the system will manage the entire student lifecycle, from Admissions to Advancement.
Margaret Weber, the University’s Director of Admissions, noted that “the ease of use by students, parents and staff” along with “personalized communications with prospects, parents and other select groups” would greatly benefit Franciscan University of Steubenville,
a comment echoed by Kathy Reehl, the University’s Registrar. “Compared to the other systems we reviewed, Jenzabar EX appears to be more user friendly and more user centered. Jenzabar EX would fit into our current mission and future goals without … over extending the IT department. I believe that the Jenzabar EX solution is the best solution for the University as a whole,” she added.
“In the three years since we rolled out our Total Campus Management framework we’ve seen an increasing number of client institutions embrace the value that Jenzabar brings through its integrated ERP, LMS and portal solutions,” said Robert A. Maginn, Chairman and CEO of Jenzabar, Inc. “We appreciate the validation of Franciscan University of Steubenville’s campus-wide evaluation process as proof that Jenzabar solutions serve the entire campus community and particularly support the student lifecycle, from first contact to an ongoing relationship with the institution.”
