Sarah Lawrence College Expands Its Online Community Through Jenzabar’s Internet Campus Solution
Enhanced Portal Will Support Staff In Addition to Students and Faculty

Cambridge, MA — November 28, 2005 — Jenzabar, Inc., the pioneer of Total Campus Management (TCM) solutions for higher education, applauded the decision by Sarah Lawrence College to implement Jenzabar’s Internet Campus Solution (JICS) 6.0 and Learning Management System (LMS), greatly expanding the College’s online community. Sarah Lawrence College had previously created an online community for faculty and students through the Jenzabar EX Web product, and the migration to JICS will bring Web services to the College’s administrative staff as well. Sarah Lawrence also utilizes a Jenzabar ERP system, and the implementation of JICS will bring the administrative and learning management systems together through a portal that unites the entire campus community and provides a personalized user experience.

We will be able to consolidate course information and create learning groups, and add some other features that will make for a valuable extension to the College,” she added.

Known as “MySLC,” the enhancements to the Sarah Lawrence portal will include chat functionality and group-specific forums to bring a higher level of interaction to the community. Additionally, the enhanced portal will become a gathering place for the many custom applications that the College uses to support its community, providing a common access point and homogeneity across its online environment.

Sarah Lawrence’s technical staff has customized its current system to support the College’s unique course reporting structure. Sarah Lawrence believes that grades do not adequately measure student growth. Instead, growth and achievement are evaluated in reports written by faculty twice a year. Since the Fall of 2002, faculty members have had the option to submit the student evaluations online. Once submitted, the evaluation becomes part of the student’s official record and is accessible online by the student, the faculty member, and the student’s advisor. Almost 90 per cent of all student evaluations are now submitted online. The custom “portlet” feature inherent in JICS will allow the College to migrate the evaluation process and create other customized applications for the portal environment.
