Jenzabar's Internet Campus Solution™ (JICS) Overview

Jenzabar's Internet Campus Solution (JICS), a portal solution designed exclusively for higher education, provides campus constituents with a single point of access to a virtually limitless number of communications, web services, community building, and e-learning applications. JICS provides 24x7 access to administrative, community and academic services and has a track record of high end-user adoption rates due to its focus on "must-have" features that encourage frequent portal use. Whether integrated with a Jenzabar administrative solution or tied to a different back-end database, JICS provides a framework for campuses to deliver the three "mission critical" elements of a successful portal: communication, web services, and community.

Features & Benefits

Benefits
The many benefits of implementing Jenzabar's Internet Campus Solution on your campus include:

  • True Single Sign-in Access: Jenzabar's Internet Campus Portal and supporting products and services provide the framework for creating a campus portal that offers true single sign-in/single-point-of-access services to campus constituents.
  • Life-long Relationships: JICS improves your institution's ability to forge life-long relationships with constituents by providing a consistent way for constituents to interact electronically with your institution through a single point of access, even as their status changes over time from prospective applicant to graduated student, or from faculty member to Executive Dean.
  • Rapid Access to Need-to-Know Information: Whether its a college President checking his digital dashboard, a prospective student checking the status of her application, or a member of the Institutional Advancement staff checking key biographical details on a prospect from a offsite location, JICS provides a robust, scaleable framework for delivering information rapidly via the web to the people who need it most.
  • Improvements in Departmental Efficiency: JICS allows campuses to provide anytime, anywhere self-service access to administrative functionality - freeing up many administrative staff members to spend less time on mundane tasks (like application data entry) and more time interacting face-to-face with constituents and working on new administrative projects and services. In addition, automated integration with back-end databases allows the instant creation of real-time executive reports that once took weeks to generate - reducing the amount of staff time required for such tasks.

Features
Key features of Jenzabar's Internet Campus Solution include:

Communication Features:
In addition to complete webmail functionality, Jenzabar's Internet Campus Portal offers a variety of additional features designed to help institutions leverage their portal to communicate directly with the full range of campus constituents - including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and applicants. Features include:

  • A full featured webmail program offering integrated, single sign-in access to campus email and many web-based external email accounts, including Yahoo!
  • A look & feel that is easily customized to match an institution's graphic identity.
  • Administrative access to "Targeted Communications" utilities, including the ability to push prominently displayed role-based messages and banners to specific groups of users.
  • Administrative access to "Campus Resources" utilities, including the ability to create and edit specific role-based headers and resource links.
  • Individual user access to "My Homepage" utilities, which allow individuals to customize the appearance of their portal.

Web Services:
Jenzabar's Internet Campus Portal also offers a wide variety of options for integrating web services and data access into the single sign-in experience:

  • JICS CRMs: Jenzabar provides a number of "out of the box" plug-ins for JICs that integrate directly into back end databases and provide access to key features and functionality. CRMs are collections of applications based around individual types of constituents (Candidate, Student, Faculty, Staff, etc.) See "Jenzabar CRMs" for more information.
  • Custom CRM Services: Jenzabar also provides custom CRM development services for specialized administrative and staff CRMS as well as Executive Dashboard portlets. See "Jenzabar Executive Dashboard" and "Jenzabar CI" for more information.
  • Learning Management: Jenzabar's Learning Management System (LMS) provides comprehensive learning management functionality in a format that encourages widespread faculty adoption and use. An ideal module to supplement and enhance in-classroom education, the LMS can also be used to conduct distance education classes. See "Jenzabar LMS" for more information.
  • Campus-Developed Portlets: The flexible, XML-based architecture of JICS allows your institution's IT staff to convert any existing web-based stand-alone applications or services into JICS portlets.
  • JICS also includes special features that allow administrators to develop additional portlets without any programming knowledge.

Community:
A critical factor in adoption of portals is their ability to create a digital community that aligns with and enhances the vibrant real-world community of a campus. Jenzabar's Internet Campus Solution provides a number of community features, including:

  • A wide range of "Campus Groups" utilities that allows users to create groups and define themselves as members of a specific campus group (Ski Club, Theatre Company, etc.)
  • Campus Group utilities also provide specialized home page, document sharing, calendaring, chat, discussion forums and communications features for each group.
  • Classified Ad Bulletin Boards where students post items for sale, rooms for rent, and other topics related to student life.
  • Secure data integration with back-end campus databases to ensure that only your campus constituents have access to the digital community.
